Microsoft 365 Sharepoint Online Files access

A new release of the Custom Connector for TIBCO Spotfire to read data from SharePoint Online is now available. This release includes support for Linux Web Players and Automation Services that was introduced in Spotfire 12.0.

We currently use EPAM's connector, but I will send along this link for users to try out. It is great that Tibco still has this on the list of things to do... but again it has been on the list for a very long time. I have not heard any movement from any of the recent conferences that anything will happen in the next few releases. Not really sure why not....

Yes, the currently released connector version 11.5.0.14 works for Spotfire 11.5 through 12.0 when using Web Player on Windows. We will be releasing an update to the connector soon to support Linux Web Player.

The ImageFromURL issue does not apply to this connector since the connector has the user login to Azure and uses that token to access the SharePoint files.

Does this connector work with Spotfire 12?

12 has been out for a month or two now, and this connector is current to 11.5 or 6 I think, as per documentation.

Also, does it suffer from the same problem that the ImageFromURL table cell renderer has, with Azure-authenticated folders? That would be a showstopper.

Thanks for your feedback. It is in our direction to provide full support for SharePoint data access, including Excel and CSV files. The support for SharePoint Lists was the first incremental step. This has been a request on the portal for quite some time. Tibco support SharePoint List, but most SharePoint users do not use SharePoint List, they are more interested in accessing files stored on SharePoint. Tibco prioritized lists over files, perhaps because it is easier to implement. SharePoint is also the backbone of One Drive, which is another integration feature that has been requested. I am not sure why Tibco does not feel that this should be a priority.

Any user should be able to access any excel file and any lists on SharePoint from Spotfire Analyst, provided he has the right access on SharePoint. We are having tons of reports and files hosted on SharePoint and we would like to keep it up with real-time connection. Having a solid native framework from the start would help a lot to rely further on Spotfire to analyze this data, and would prevent from using extra patches/fixes/addons made by other providers.

Already tested and using this connector it works great for both Spotfire client and Webplayer.

100% huge limitation of Spotfire as folks have mentioned. What a shame this has not been completed by TIBCO. As others mentioned, you can use local file explorer link but has anyone had luck avoiding user name issue? Eg cannot use the spotfire amongst various users due to user name in file path?

Holger's workaround below is fine for an individual user working on a personal analysis file. But data accessed in this way will not be available to other users, as the local path will be specific to the userID of the person performing the sync (it's stored in C:\Users\<userid>), making it insufficient for shared dashboards. A global solution with a built-in connector is still needed.

As a work around in SharePoint Online in a document library there is a button "Add shortcut to OneDrive". If you click this it takes a few minutes and then in your Windows Explorer under OneDrive you see then the linked folder. If you now in Spotfire choose "Browse local file..." to load data from local drive, then you can navigate to OneDrive folder and use the link to open a CSV or Excel files from this linked SharePoint Online document library folder. You can also safe a Spotfire workbook to this linked SharePoint Online document library folder via the regular "Save" dialog in Spotfire.

It is important that TIBCO Spotfire can connect to: SharePoint LISTS, SharePoint LIBRARIES and files in SharePoint LIBRARIES.

With the oil price under 20$/BBL, it is hard to defend Spotfire additional cost. If we don't get this connector soon from TIBCO, it will be a negative factor that will encourage some bureaucrats to stop our Spotfire subscription. Come on TIBCO, it is not rocket science! Thank you.

Maartan, we are successfully using the EPAM connector for O365 SharePoint site. That said, I agree it would be better if it was native to Spotfire.

If we have Spotfire license, our management will not approve to expend more on any 3rd party connector. How soon can we expect to get this a part of Spotfire in-built function?

I was talking about the O365 version, which the EPAM connector does not support as far as I know.
